How Carpool Team works
Carpool Team answers one question for every family on your team: who is the easiest person to ask for a ride to this exact place? Here's the whole thing, start to finish.
Step 1
Create your team and add the usual spots
Whoever organizes the team — a manager, coach, or team parent — creates the team and adds the destinations families actually drive to: the practice field, the home rink or pool, the usual game complexes. It takes about five minutes, and it's the only setup the season needs.
There's nothing to install. Carpool Team runs in the browser on any phone or computer, and signing in uses a one-time email code or a Google account — no passwords.
Step 2
Share one invite in the chat you already have
Every team gets a private invite: a link plus a short code. Paste it once into the group chat your team already uses — no email roster to build, no accounts to create on anyone's behalf.
Parents open the link, enter the code, add their family's home location and their child's first name, and they're in. The code never appears in the link itself, and organizers can lock joining once the roster is complete.
Step 3
Parents ask the easiest match
When a family needs a ride, they pick the destination and see teammates ranked by one number: how many minutes the pickup would add to that family's own drive. Not who lives closest — whose route actually passes near them, for that specific field, rink, or pool. Rides can be matched both ways: getting there and getting home.
Tap a name and Carpool Team opens the texting app with a ready message. The ride is arranged parent-to-parent, exactly the way it always has been — just without the group-chat guessing.
The privacy model
Home locations are stored as private coordinates and used for one purpose: computing the extra minutes. Teammates never see an address, a map pin, or a neighborhood — only names and minutes. There's nothing to screenshot and nothing to leak.
Children never get accounts. A child is a first name and a relationship (“Sofia — mom”), nothing more. And there is no background location or tracking of any kind; Carpool Team only knows the home spot each parent chose to enter.
What it never does
Carpool Team is deliberately not a scheduling system. It never assigns rides, approves drivers, builds calendars, chases RSVPs, or inserts itself into the carpool. It points each parent to the easiest ask and gets out of the way. Organizers do nothing after setup — parents help themselves all season.
