Privacy Policy

Carpool Team helps parents on a youth sports team find the teammate parent for whom giving a ride adds the fewest minutes of driving. Parents arrange rides themselves by text message; we never take part in the ride.

Account: your email address (for sign-in codes and links, or shared by Google if you sign in with Google), your first and last name, and your mobile phone number so teammates can text you.

Child information:only your child’s first name and your relationship to them (mom, dad, guardian). We never create child accounts or profiles beyond this.

Home location:when you add your address, we convert it to geographic coordinates on our server and discard the typed address. The coordinates are used exclusively for private route matching — calculating how many minutes a pickup would add to another parent’s drive. They are never shown to teammates, never displayed on a map, and never shared with other users in any form.

Usage: we keep aggregate counts of how often matchmaking is used (per account: a use counter and the time of last use) to understand operating costs. We do not record which parent you contacted, the message text, or whether a ride happened.

When you search for a ride, our server sends coordinates to a routing provider (Google Maps Platform, or OSRM during development) to compute drive times. Results are returned as names and minutes only. Raw route durations are used once and discarded. So repeat searches don’t recompute routes, we keep the rounded detour minutes already shown to you (never coordinates, addresses, or names); they are refreshed automatically whenever the roster or anyone’s home location changes.

We do not sell your information. We do not show ads or use behavioral advertising or cross-site tracking. We do not track your device’s location — the only location we know is the home address you chose to enter. We do not send your name, contact details, address, coordinates, or team information to third-party analytics services.

Carpool Team is free. If you choose to leave an optional tip, payment is handled entirely by a third-party payment provider (such as Ko-fi and its payment processors) on their own site, under their own privacy policy. Card details never pass through or get stored on Carpool Team servers, and tipping has no effect on your matches or access.

Your information is kept while your account is active. You can update or remove your home location at any time in My info, and you can delete your account there too. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, your child’s first name, your location coordinates, and your team memberships.

Carpool Team accounts are for parents and guardians aged 18 or over. The service is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children beyond the first name a parent provides.
